Costa Rica Adventure Travel Guides and Staff 

Jane (New Zealand) and Fraser (Scotland) Tyrrell – owners of Costa Rica Rios, have a background of travel and adventure. Coming from different sides of the globe they both set out backpacking at a young age, travelling through the different continents until they eventually met by chance, while working in the Caribbean, at the turn of the century. Always looking for a life less ordinary, they found Costa Rica Rios and decided to head over to Costa Rica to check it out. After falling in love with the country and being totally inspired by the business they decided to make Costa Rica home. They continue providing fantastic trips and service, and are excited to expand the company so many more people can experience the magic of CR.

Deivis Montenegro “Menudo”
Hailing from the countryside around Turrialba, Deivis brings a wealth of knowledge of all things Costa Rican to Costa Rica Rios. Combine that with his exceptional kayaking and guiding skills and he is a true asset to our Week of Rivers and Week of Adventures tours. Deivis also enjoys mountain biking, and paddling in his spare time and is a top competitor in national triathlons and other races. Deivis has twice represented Costa Rica in the World Rafting Championships, the most recent held near Turrialba in October, 2012. Deivis is also a good dancer and enjoys sharing his moves on our “salsa and merengue nights”.

Arnaldo Céspedes “Pelon” is one of Costa Rica’s top kayakers.  Recently competing in the World Freestyle Championships in NC, he brings a fun and exciting dimension to our Week of Rivers tours.  Having started kayaking as a young boy he has grown into a confident and mature kayak guide and is always willing to offer tips to our clients, helping them enjoy our rivers even more. Arnaldo has his eye on the next Olympics, Rio 2016!

Daniel Bustos “Pelos”
Daniel is a great lover of extreme sports. He was born and raised in a small town near Turrialba, Costa Rica. He comes from a large family that is dedicated mostly to agricultural activities. From an early age Daniel has been linked to rafting and kayaking especially since his older brother took him to rafting on different rivers around Costa Rica. Another sport he loves and practices is Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). He has a very good record of fights won, in different events and soon Daniel hopes to acquire the professional level.  He is also working on opening his own MMA academy. He is always cheerful and never without a smile.  He’s waiting for you in Turrialba to share with you, the magic of a great Costa Rica vacation.

Taylor Dwyer
Growing up surrounded by the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range in Northern California, whitewater kayaking and Taylor had an inevitable future together. Taylor started teaching kayaking only a year into it herself and over the past 5 years has found a great love for the sport, the river, and the ability to reach people through the many different avenues kayaking offers. She has taught in numerous schools around the U.S. and in Central Asia, most currently residing in Jackson Hole, WY. Her favorite river (thus far) is the Cal Salmon which twists around the Marble Mountains in California. Besides kayaking, Taylor’s favorite thing to do is laugh, so feel free to try out your good jokes around her.

Walter Centeno “Paté” Pate” was born on the outskirts of Turrialba where he grew up studying and picking coffee before he became guide in 2001He currently combines his work with his university studies in business administration.  A lover ofadventure sports, Paté competes in kayak slalom competitions and rafting,and has represented Costa Rica in  two world championships in bothkayaking and rafting.  He enjoy meeting people from other places andsharing fun adventurous experiences.  Walter is always happy and his infectious attitude is hard not to catch.


Silvia Solano Silvia was born and raised in Turrialba Volcano’s outskirts, Santa Cruz. She used to have everyday adventures with the cattle and the many area’s funny experiences. She moved downtown to finish high school and then she studied Tourism in Cartago, where she lived for about 3 years before coming back home. With an 8-year experience on tourism, Silvia knows very well the perfect destinations for your trip. At the office, she is a great collaborator on designing and taking along your adventure the best way. Loves reading & writing literature and is actually a student at the Administration career. Silvia will help you out supporting the adventure from the CRR’s Office.

Luigi Sanchez “Rasta” Luigi is our main paparrazi guide.  He excels in taking fun and interesting photos along with editing videos to get the best out of your trip.  Luigi is also an important part of our guiding team and when not taking photos or making videos you can find him guiding a raft or rappeling waterfalls.  He is also a great naturalist guide and loves sharing his knowledge with out lucky guests. Luigi knows Costa Rica extremely well and his enthusiasm about his country is contagious.  Luigi loves spending time with his wife and daughter and hitting the beach to surf, in his spare time.



Natalie Meneses. Natalie grew up in a small town in north Cartago, she has always enjoyed nature and outdoor activities, that’s why she decided to study Rural Tourism at high school. Currently, she is a Business Administration student and loves landscaping photography as a hobby, as well as sharing with her family and friends. Stunning with her smile, she will be always at the airport awaiting for your arrival at the tropics! Very friendly and “pura vida”, Natalie will be a perfect guide at your trip.

Jose Mario Achoy. Jose is also a guy raised on a ‘Pacuare-lover’ family. Since he was a baby he was involved on the tourism ride. Passionate to politics and boxing, Jose is a Law student looking forward to support the town’s environmental development. He helps at CRR with social media managing, and next to Natalie, will always be outside the airport with the paddle!


Adriana Araya. As she says, a very good Turrialbeña. She lives in Sitio Mata, a rural place surrounded by nature, traditional customs and a warm family. She grew up learning all the farming tasks. She went to university and now is part of the team behind the scenes of the adventure! Adriana loves working at CRR because she feels everyone here as part of her family. Everything you’ll need during the trip, will be there thanks to Adriana’s race to the supermarket!
