Titokú Hot Springs – One of Arenal’s Best-Kept Secrets

Costa Rica’s famous Arenal Volcano area is certainly not short of beautiful hot springs but if you’re after a more intimate and authentic experience then we think you’ll simply love to discover Titokú – one of Arenal’s best-kept secrets.

One of the smallest (and most affordable) of all the hot springs in the region, Titokú is, in many ways, one of the most delightful. Overshadowed on all sides by much bigger thermal resorts, it seems to go unnoticed by so many, which makes it an absolute treasure that’s hidden in plain sight. The service is attentive, the ambiance divine and the whole experience relaxing.

Just a handful of bubbling pools nestled in lush gardens, offering an array of top-notch services to make your visit even more enjoyable, this pocket of Arenal gorgeousness is an absolute highlight that’s not to be missed.

Overview of the Titokú Hot Springs @ Kioro Hotel & Resort

Titokú (meaning water from the gods in the native Maleku) are one of the latest additions to the 5* Kioro Resort although they are set apart for the hotel and open to the general public, not only hotel guests. This means the setting is kept serene and laid-back and, given the stunning landscaped gardens and surrounding wilderness, it also means you feel far removed from the hectic pace of the busy resort.

Small and intimate, Titokú has limited capacity which translates to a very relaxing and uncrowded experience for those in the know. Yes, you’ll need to book your time-slot in advance to avoid disappointment but you can also look forward to a sublimely relaxing experience.

And what’s not to love about that?

What Does Titokú Offer?

In total, Titokú comprises eight cascading hot thermal springs, with the water temperature ranging from hottest (up the top) to coolest (down the bottom) so you can hop to and fro at your leisure. At the end of a long day’s adventure in Arenal, there’s nothing more enjoyable, soothing and relaxing than a thermal spring soak and the central location of Titokú, not to mention lack of crowds and all-round business, makes them absolutely ideal.

You’ll also find a full-service bar on site (yes, you can sip champagne as you soak!) as well as optional meals of local specialties, dressing rooms, lockers, towels and showers for added convenience.

All up, Titokú caters for a maximum of 80 guests, with each pool holding between six and 20 people, depending on the size. The time-slot booking system, however, means that you’ll almost never find the pools crowded (in fact, you can oftentimes bag a whole pool to yourself) which is one of the loveliest bonuses of this gorgeous place.

Evening visits are even more enticing given the atmospheric ambient lighting. Visiting Costa Rica on an adventure honeymoon? Don’t miss this super romantic spot!

Opening times & entrance fees

Titokú Hot Springs are open from 10am to 8pm, 7 days a week and simple entry costs just USD 23.10 per person at time of writing (USD 48.80 if you’d love to have a meal here). Children under 4 years of age can visit free of charge and older kids, up to the age of 11, pay half-price.

If you’re after an inexpensive hot spring experience in Costa Rica, Titokú also wins on this account: entrance fee here is less than one-third of nearby Tabacon and less than half of Baldi, both among the most popular options. Budget-friendly Costa Rica adventures made easy!

Visiting slots start at 10am, 1pm, 3pm and 5pm – giving you three glorious hours to enjoy the pools and all the services.

Given the capacity restrictions, we’d recommend you ask your hotel concierge to book your time slot prior to visiting. Simply ask them to call +(506) 2479-1700 with your preferred dates and time.

Do note that the use of the dressing rooms, lockers, showers and towel are all included in your entrance fee. Conveniently, you can open a tab at the bar and pay for everything at the end of your visit, so you can safely lock away your belongings for the duration of your stay.

Aside from a fresh change of clothes and your bathing suit, you may also want to pack insect repellent, a pair of sandals or flip-flops and, of course, a compact camera!
