You’ll go in search of the critters you love to loath – from bugs to bats, to all that creeps, crawls and flies by night. And true, you’re sure to see the beast with two brains on this tour. But fear not! The tales on this trek are sure to turn your fear and loathing to grudging admiration for some of the most remarkable – and misunderstood – creatures on the planet. Overnight La Paloma Lodge. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.Day 13
Corcovado National Park Hike
National Geographic famously labeled it “the most biologically intense place on the planet,” and this characterization is memorialized in nearly every abbreviated web description of the park in existence. The park contains the largest contiguous expanse of primary tropical rain forest north of the Amazon basin, it is frequently reported and is widely known to contain within its boundaries 2.5% of the biodiversity of the entire planet. While this biodiversity is partly explained by Corcovado’s geographic location along the land bridge connecting the North and South American continents, the diversity of forest types within Corcovado itself is a strong predictor of zoologic diversity as well. At least thirteen distinct vegetation types identified within the park boundaries provide habitat for a mind-numbing list of animal species. Visit the San Pedrillo Station and have an expert naturalist guide lead you along the trails in search of wildlife. He/she will teach you amazing facts about the rainforest that you never knew and will point out all sorts of interesting flora and fauna. The park is an hour boat ride away so if you are lucky you may also get to see dolphins playing in the wake. Overnight La Paloma Lodge. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.Day 14
Bird Watching
Birding in the Osa Peninsula is an unforgettable experience. Harboring over 460 species of birds alone, the Osa packs an incredible array of wildlife into a very modest area. With Red-capped Manakins, Yellow-billed and Turquoise Cotingas and the healthiest population of Scarlet Macaws in Central America, the Osa is one of the most spectacular yet under-birded corners of the country. From Canada and the United States to Central and South America, around 150 species of migrant birds birds travel yearly to flee the harsh northern winter to take refuge in the warm neotropics lying south – facing the unique challenge that is their “dual nationality.” Some of most notable visiting species of the Osa include the Prothonotary Warbler, Golden-Wing Warbler, and the stunning Baltimore Oriole. Birding in the Osa Peninsula gives participants a chance to see these charismatic birds in their second home and protect their critical wintering habitat. Overnight La Paloma Lodge. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.Day 15
Free morning before heading back to civilization!
From the dock, guests are welcome to use a single or double kayak and explore the cool waters, charming waterfalls, and diverse wildlife. Enjoy the morning, relax and enjoy the tropical sun and reflect on the amazing journey you have been on, for the past two weeks. The lodge backs up to the Agujitas river.. In the afternoon you will board the short flight back to San Jose where you will spend the last night in a hotel close to the airport. Breakfast included.Day 16
