After leaving the airport, we begin the journey to our headquarters in Turrialba, about a two hour drive through orchards, small towns and beautiful coffee fields. Overnight at Villa Florencia, Turrialba. Dinner included.
Rafting – Welcome to the jungle
After enjoying a great breakfast, you are outfitted for the awesome overnight rafting trip on the world famous Lower Pacuare River. On the way to the river we will stop off at a Serpentarium run by an expert herpetologist. He will teach you all about the many different species of snakes found in Costa Rica. Later, enjoy 8 miles of challenging whitewater, and participate in river side stops to hike up to secluded pools below tributary waterfalls. After some great hikes and wonderful adventures, you will arrive at the remote eco-lodge. The Pacuare Eco Lodge is equipped with a full kitchen, showers, bathrooms, fully enclosed cabinas, and the best vantage point of the beautiful river and jungle. After settling in at the camp, you are free to practice in a kayak, swim, explore the jungle or just sit back in a a hammock and relax. Rafting – Part II
Those who enjoy the early morning will especially like a morning hike through the dense rain forest surrounding the lodge. After a hearty breakfast surrounded by tropical birds it’s time to get serious about whitewater fun. Our rafting trip continues down the most challenging section of the Pacuare as class IV drops seem to be around every corner. The spectacular river canyon and virgin rainforest create vertical walls of green, broken by waterfalls and hanging vines. This stretch of the Lower Pacuare River has been voted one of the top 10 commercially rafted rivers in the world by National Geographic and will have you floating past primary rainforest, stunning waterfalls, steep canyons and fun class III and IV rapids. You will enjoy a sumptuous river picnic along the way before reaching the “take out” point in the Caribbean lowlands. After the river your driver will transfer you to La Fortuna where you will be spending the next two nights at the Hotel Los Lagos. This is a fun property to relax in and enjoy great views of the Arenal Volcano. The property boasts extensive gardens and trails, butterfly gardens, crocodiles, high speed water slide, a spa and its own hot springs. Overnight Hotel Los Lagos. Breakfast and lunch included.
Canopy Tour, Hanging Bridges and Culture
Your adventure continues with the exciting Sky Trek, Sky Walk, Sky Tram – the complete combo! Discover a birds eye view of the volcano, lake and rainforest as you travel up in open air cable cars to explore the suspended bridges before speeding back down to earth along almost two miles of zip lines. Start with an open gondola ride through the dense rain forest to the unique volcano observation deck. From there you will have great photography opportunities with treetop views of the tropical rainforest. See the jungle from a different perspective and maybe see some different creatures that inhabit it. Your guide will share more wonders of the flora and fauna with you and will explain the history and culture of the area. Return to the ground below by ziplining a series of cables across the tree canopies and canyons. This is an exhilarating fun way to see the rainforest and the beauty of the area. Hiking, Rappelling, Canyoning! The Ultimate Adventure Day!
Today you will experience a truly incredible part of Costa Rica, and you will definitely be off the beaten path. You will be hiking in a very remote area called Las Tumbas, named after the abundance of hollowed stones in the area, once used by the indigenous people for grinding flour. The Diamante River flows through the heart of the valley and two kilometers below its natural source, surrounded by 1200feet of cascading waterfalls, you will find the “Casa de Piedra” or as the locals call it “The Cave”. This amazing open air cavern is set behind twin waterfalls and will be your accommodations for the night! This overnight excursion involves hiking to waterfalls, swimming in crystal clear jungle swimming pools, cliff jumping and multiple rappels and of course overnighting in a jungle cave where your guides will prepare dinner for you. Overnight “The Cave”. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
